Performance Studies as a field of study began at NYU. The areas of research Faculty within the Department of Performance Studies undertake are as varied as the field of Performance Studies. All members of the faculty are widely recognized as leading authorities in their respective areas of research.
The varied interest areas and diverse backgrounds of our faculty provide an exciting and dynamic learning environment. Faculty areas of interest range from dance to aesthetics of everyday life; from theories directing to queer and feminist theory; from performance and politics to performance and healing.
Performance Studies Faculty integrate theory and practice and utilize various methods of research and analysis including fieldwork, archival research, interviews, and movement analysis.
