Richard Schechner has been honored with the ATHE 2008 Career Achievement Award. The ATHE Career Achievement Awards are the highest honors accorded by the Association for Theatre in Higher Education. The award indicates a career of distinguished service to the field. Awardees must be recognized and known for superlative contributions to the field throughout an entire career of contributions, have a record of significant, selfless service, be original thinkers whose work has established new frames of reference, and be instrumental in nurturing the careers of others. Past winners include Anne Bogart, Edward Albee, Augusto Boal, and Maria Irene Fornes.
